International Women in Engineering Day: Celebrate the Most Powerful Women in Technology

International Women in Engineering Day is celebrated on 23rd June every year. It creates and raises awareness among women about the exciting opportunities available in the field of technology. This day also celebrates the exceptional achievements of women in engineering and allied field globally.

Engineering has changed the way we live – providing us with a comfortable lifestyle, better health and easy conveyance. From bedrooms to boardrooms, roads to rooftops, homes to hospitals – everything has been touched and changed by the power of engineering and technology.

But the sad part is even today, engineering is still a male-dominated industry. The shocking part is there were 37% women computer scientists in 1995. But today, the number has declined to 24%. Yes, the numbers have decreased and at this rate, they will continue to decrease further. So, there’s a growing need to promote women’s role in technology fields.

Women’s Engineering Society (WES) began the initiative to celebrate Women in Engineering Day in 2014. Because of the huge response the initiative received, it also received UNESCO patronage in 2016.

E-Waste is Piling Up and Killing Our Earth; How Should You Dump Your Gadgets?

Globally, World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June to rejoice the beauty of the environment, the life and lifeforms it supports and to create a consciousness among people for the protection of Earth.

But does it really help?
Does switching off the lights of your home for 2 hours create an impact?
Shouldn’t you do more to gift a better Earth to the generations to come?
Did I hear a “but what can I do?” from your lips?

There are many things you can do to help save the Earth. You can save gallons of water when you switch off the tap while brushing your teeth, choose to ride on public transport rather than travelling in your car and use energy efficient home appliances and LED light bulbs. But the most significant way you can contribute in saving the earth is by Recycling.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle should become the motto of every individual. Recycling isn’t limited to cans, plastic bottles or office paper. You should also adopt the habit of recycling your electronic gadgets.
